The Gay Blade

I've been skating on the pond behind my house several times a week and will continue to do so until our first big dump of snow.  I love the crisp air, solitude, the wilderness setting and the exercise.

I'll be very brave and post a video clip of me skating but I'll remove it after a while if I feel too "exposed."  As you can see, I'm not much of an ice skater although I played hockey until I was about 12.

I like the look of the sun is shining through the trees.  This far north, the sun is very low in the sky even at 3:30 in the afternoon.

I  didn't notice it at the time, but I like now I persevered, attempting the trick four times before I got it.   Sort of "The Little Engine that Could."  I'm like that with everything in life, I think.

  1. That was fun to watch. I love the dogs chasing you while you skate. Who was the woman filming?

awwwwwwwwwwww, the doggies! of course, you are cute too!

  3. Thanks, everyone! I was having trouble doing my "skating-in-a-circle" trick because my jeans were too tight. Maybe next time, I'll have to wear my spandex tights like a real figure skater.

My daughter was shooting the video and she skated as well.

  4. Don't apologize for your being in too tight jeans. We know from other pictures that you have great legs and other nice . . . attributes! :-)

  5. Seeing the doggies chasing you was an added bonus. I see another Dogably Pawfect post in your future.

Were you wearing figure skates? We had a winter back in '78 (I think) when it was so cold for so long (Long Island, NY) that the Great South Bay (salt water) froze so solid that you could drive on it to Fire Island. I skated almost every day for over a month and got the new skates I wanted, which were hockey skates, (I was trying to be butcher) but could not do the things I did in figure skates and so with much begging and pleading and maybe even a tear or two, I got new figure skates.

    BTW - love the jeans!

  6. Maybe by Canadian standards not a good skater, here? You would be a top notch. Seriously. I have done it, but am not good at all. I have to say, I loved the banter between you and your daughter. ESP, the "get over it" comment. So natural and affectionate. Envy is the word in my mind at the moment. Glad you had fun. Really glad.

  7. 9.5

You lost a point for falling, but got half of it back for being so cute while doing it. ;)

I miss skating. It doesn't get cold enough where I live now.

  8. Will: you're too kind! Those jeans have made many appearances on this blog... my favourite pair, Hollister, bought at a second-hand shop for $10:00.

Sean: Your skating story from '78 sounds fantastic ... magical. No, I was wearing my hockey skates bought when I was a teenager, nearly 35 years ago.

Thank you about the "jeans" complement! Here's what they look like close up.

Skier: thank you! We had a lot of fun. After you come out, I know you will have a similar relationship with your kids... have faith!

wcs: If I would have known there would be a figure skating judge watching, I would have put on my spandex and maybe added a few sequins. Thank you for your comment.... I had to look at the clip again to see what was so "cute" about it.

  9. OH! The spandex! I think every picture that appears on this blog from now on has to show you in the spandex, no matter what you're doing or where you're doing it. The cat's out of the bag now, Mr. B. Bear!

  10. I loved watching you. The jeans were just right!!!! I think most of all, I like to see that we all have real lives, and do real things. We are pretty normal when it gets down to it.

OMFG..the jeans or the spandex...(fans herself) too HAWT!

  12. I second the requirement stated by the talented and discerning Will above.

Do two Wills make it right?

  13. PS I would have said that there are two Willies standing in rapt attention waiting for such video, but alas, I do not know how the gentleman from Massachusetts feels about that name.

  14. Will + Will: You're making me blush! And Will J, you're one funny guy!

  15. The gentleman now from New Hampshire feels just fine about it, Will J.

  16. Good job with the skating. My partner is taking lessons and really enjoying it. I've never been much of a skater preferring skis.

  17. Great fun. I used to love doing the same thing on a big pond in Connecticut. Parked cars facing the ice, turned on the headlights and lit up our brief time on the ice.

Here in Delaware we are experiencing temps in the 60s at present.

    Happy holidays, buddy.

Please tell me what you're thinking!
